Finding my Songs in Life - Striving to improve as a person
My visit to the post office to buy some stamps this morning has turned out to be a motivating and an enriching experience. As I waited in the line, I noticed a new stamp honoring one of our greatest authors and poets: Maya Angelou. The stamp has this quote from her autobiography: 'A bird doesn't sing, because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.'
I came back home and spent the last few hours learning about the power of the spoken and written word through Angelou’s songs and books. She translated her life experiences into something more powerful - words that have helped thousands of people thrive and fulfill their potential and dreams.
I am dedicating myself to improving myself as a person and a leader. Here are a few things I will work on in the coming year:
Gratefulness - I have a lot to be grateful for - my family, my company and work, my friends, my country and above all, very good health that gives me the energy and passion to pursue the things I love.
Continuous Learning - I watch too much TV and don't read enough. I hope to identify 2 skills that will improve my work and ensure I learn and gain those skills.
Writing - I would like to improve as a writer, to express my own thoughts and growth as a person.
Intersections - Strive to find the best in every person I meet, work, or interact with. I want to get rid of type casting and work harder to find the strength in each member of my family and teams.
Team Work - Improve our ability as a team - at work and in the family.
As you look to your goals, strive to follow what Maya once remarked: "I did my best, I hope you do the same."
